Leigh Miners Rangers 30, Queensbury 14: LEIGH Miners Rangers cruised into the third round of the GMB Union National Cup without too many alarms against Pennine League championship contenders Queensbury.
On a heavy Twist Lane pitch the Miners did all the damage in the first half when they built up a commanding 24-2 lead.
Loose forward Tommy Goulding and half-backs Sean Phoenix and Aaron Beath called the shots and despite Queensbury's's best efforts, they struggled to hold the Leigh side.
Speedy winger Craig Graham grabbed the first try off a Goulding pass and then added a second when centre Alan Reddicliffe put him over. A terrific break down the left by Glen Bracek ended with centre Carl Jones crossing for a third Miners try. Goulding snatched the fourth touchdown and with Beath converting all four, the Miners were in complete control.
Queensbury worked hard in the second period but a Beath break put full-back Darren Pilkington in for a fifth Miners try with Beath again adding the extras.
Queensbury didn't throw in the towel and had the better of the final quarter, crossing for a couple of consolation tries from Paul Drake and Smith.
The third round draw again gave the Miners home advantage. They will tackle fellow National Conference side Castleford Lock Lane at Twist Lane this Saturday.
Leigh East's second round tie at Oldham St Annes was a casualty of the weather. The two teams will try again this weekend with the winners getting a third round home tie against Ince Rose Bridge.
