HOLY Cross College has been named as one of the most outstanding colleges in the country.
David Bell, the government's chief inspector of schools, cited the Manchester Road college as being "particularly successful" in his annual report published this week.
College principal Mike O'Hare said: "We are delighted, especially as this is the first time colleges have been identified."
He said he attributed the success to two key factors, a 97 per cent pass rate at A level and a 97 per cent retention rate of students.
Of the 100 colleges nationwide inspected last year, only 20 others were listed alongside Holy Cross as being particularly successful.
Mr Bell said: "I believe these success stories are a testament to both the talent and dedication of the staff and the pupils themselves."
