IS there a jinx or something on Forever Bury's recruitment efforts?

Saturday's home game against Oxford United was to have been the occasion for a major effort to enrol more members. Two previous dates were aborted at short notice.

Well, as everyone now knows, it was not 'third time lucky'.

A partially frozen pitch caused the match to be cancelled and with no spectators, there could be no recruitment drive.

Calling off the game also meant that the Gigg Lane Ladies Day had to be postponed.

Bury Girls and Ladies FC were due to be guests of the club on the day and launch what is hoped will develop into a mutually beneficial partnership between the two organisations.

The weather also forced the postponement of Forever Bury's first Player of the Month presentation.

Michael Nelson, who narrowly pipped Ian Lawson as supporters' choice for January, was due to receive his prize (a voucher worth £50 to spend at Drury's Menswear, Ramsbottom) on the pitch prior to the match.

The cancellation put an end to that and now it is intended the presentation will take place prior to the Leyton Orient game on Saturday, February 15.

The organisers of Player of the Month were pleased with the response the project received from fans, especially considering the short notice.

They are hoping to make it much easier to vote for the February Player of the Month with supporters able to register their votes at the club or on the Forever Bury website as well as by post using the printed slip from the Bury Times.

Meanwhile, the hunt is now on for individuals or businesses willing to sponsor one of the monthly awards.

The organisers, Chris Walsh and Mick Norris are looking for businesses and individuals willing to put up a prize, worth about £50, possibly a voucher for a meal out or a store voucher.

They are contactable by post at Forever Bury, PO Box 310, Bury BL9 6WA or by e-mail ForeverBury@pcfc.co.uk

Incidentally, there has been an inquiry about contacting the Bulletin by post. The address for the Bulletin is the same as all other Forever Bury mail: Box 310, Bury BL9 6WA.

Finally, something reassuringly familiar.

Robbie the Bobby is back in town. He is booked to appear at the Millgate shopping centre, Bury from 2pm, tomorrow (Saturday), February 8 and is looking forward to renewing his acquaintance with his young fans.
