Clarets boss Stan Ternent could be without as many as FIVE midfield players for the trip to Coventry City tomorrow.
And his team selection may have to wait until just hours before the game.
"Steve Davis, Paul Weller and Brad Maylett are all definitely out and I am having to wait and see on Glen Little and Lee Briscoe," he explained.
"I am hoping that Glen will be alright and Brizzer's thigh injury has settled but it is a question of whether there is any reaction to training yesterday.
"We are obviously stretched in that position so I will give them both as long as possible before making a decision. I know how I would like to play against Coventry but it depends on who will be fit."
If they were to fall short of making the match, Ternent would be left with just Paul Cook, Tony Grant and Alan Moore as recognised midfield players, although Graham Branch, back from suspension, could move forward from left back if required.
Despite the latest injury problems he is still backing his players to bounce back from the disappointing defeat by Reading as he said: "We have talked to them about what went wrong but they normally react well to any setbacks.
"We know things are difficult because of our own making, taking just one point from our first five games, we were always playing catch-up.
"What we need is to string a few wins together and our first target is to get the four victories that would take us up to 50 points. We will get there, don't worry about that but we want it to be soon.
"Look at the stats for last week, we had a lot of chances but the problem is that we gave some poor goals away."
And Ternent has taken heart from the fact that Burnley have beaten Coventry in all three matches since they were relegated from the Premiership.
"We have done well in the last couple of years but of course not quite well enough last season, when their keeper made the saves from Gazza," he said. "But it will be another good match against them, a good game of football."
Ternent was sorry to see the reserves match called off in midweek as he said: "I always like to keep the players ticking over and it is important for someone like Dimi, who gets 20 minutes here and there, to get games in.
"But the players have been working very hard this week although it has not been easy with the weather. We have had to do stuff in the gym which is not ideal."
The weather has been getting milder so Ternent was confident they would get back outside today in their final preparations for the game.
The win at Brentford was the first on Burnley's travels since the triumph at Leicester City so perhaps a return to the East Midlands will inspire the Clarets to a fourth away league win of the season.
