BLACKBURN Hawks renew acquaintance with arch-rivals Whitley Bay Warriors this weekend, not once, but twice in back-to-back cup and league action.
On Saturday, the Warriors visit Blackburn Arena in the Premier Cup, promising the sternest of challenges. Arguably, more important - and more testing - is the English National League clash in the North East 24 hours later.
Hawks' coach Bobby Haig said: "Hopefully we can take full advantage of being at home in the Cup. If we can turn them over it will give us a boost for the League on Sunday.
"We can only take each game as it comes, but we need at least a draw at Whitley to give ourselves a fighting chance of making the end-of-season play-offs."
Last weekend, the Hawks experienced mixed fortunes in their quest for precious play-off points.
An excellent win over Kingston Jets was followed by a close defeat at Billingham Bombers.
With just two league matches left, time is running out for the Haig and his squad to qualify.
It's a tall order as the Hawks could be without three key players for the two matches with the intimidating Warriors.
Wes Barnett is sidelined through suspension. He has been banned until February 17 for 'excessive rough play', Chris Black is also unavailable due to work commitments and there is an injury doubt over sharp-shooter Craig Sharman, who faces a late fitness test. Doors open at the Arena on Saturday at 5.15 pm, face-off is at 6pm.
