BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness today admitted he may consider the possibility of sending Matt Jansen out on loan.

Jansen is currently on the comeback trail after suffering a serious head injury in a motorbike accident last summer.

And Souness believes a spell on loan elsewhere may well help the 25-year-old to rediscover his old sharpness.

At the moment, Jansen's first team opportunities would appear to be limited at Ewood where he currently finds himself behind Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke in the pecking order.

And, with every Premiership place worth an extra £400,000, Souness has conceded he can't afford to throw the Ewood hot-shot back into his starting line-up before he feels he is ready.

Therefore, a move on loan could well represent the best way of getting Jansen the regular football he needs in order to get himself fit and ready for the start of next season.

With Hakan Sukur hoping to get the all-clear to step up his training programme today, Souness may soon have the resources at his disposal which would allow him to let Jansen go on a temporary basis.

As things stand, there's nothing to stop a Nationwide League club from coming in for the player, even though the Premiership transfer window has now closed.

Under existing rules, Nationwide clubs can still loan players from the Premiership and there would surely be plenty of interest in Jansen if Souness was to make him available.

"If Hakan got fit again then that's something we might look at," admitted the Rovers chief.

"We are not in the situation where we can just throw Matt in and see what happens.

"We've got to get as many points as we possibly can and the pressure is enormous.

"On the last day of last season, although we were safe from relegation, we were still playing for big rewards and the club got an extra £2 million by jumping up four places.

"So you're never really in the situation where you can say to someone 'Here's four or five games, now go and show me what you can do.'"

Meanwhile, Rovers were hoping for good news in regard to Sukur today as the Turk attempts to step up his own comeback from injury.

The 31-year-old was hoping to get the all-clear to step up his training programme after battling back from a broken leg and a hernia operation.

And if all goes to plan then the former Inter Milan striker could be in line for his Rovers debut at the end of the month.

"Hakan is seeing a specialist today and he's hoping to get the all-clear to step up his work," said Souness.

"At the moment, he's probably four weeks away from actually playing again but if he gets the all-clear today then we'll be able to push him on."
