HAVING won the FA Cup and twice been runners-up, the Clarets have a proud history in the competition.

There have been many famous victories and glory days and the hope is that next weekend will be another triumph as they take on Premiership Fulham at Loftus Road.

There is certain to be a sizeable travelling support with tickets for the match already selling fast and the fans are determined to play their part.

Supporters' clubs have got together and they are determined to create an unforgettable atmosphere by getting behind the team and singing from the very first whistle.

In fact they are trying to re-create the incredible atmosphere from a famous Cup tie 11 years ago that has stayed in the memory for all those who were there - even though Burnley lost.

It was a rearranged third round replay against Derby County at the Baseball Ground and manager at the time was Jimmy Mullen.

"I can honestly say that in the whole of my life I have never seen or heard anything like it," he admitted this week. "The fans were incredible and it was a fantastic night.

"Burnley supporters have always been very vocal and there have been some great times when they have been singing from the Longside. If we got going and got them started, it could be great.

"But for some reason on this particular day at Derby it went up another level and to this day I can remember it.

"I know it is something that will always stick in my mind."

It was a Saturday afternoon replay after a 2-2 draw at Turf Moor. An initial attempt to play the match had been abandoned because of heavy fog but that did not stop the away fans from returning in numbers for the third attempt to complete the tie.

Mullen, who is currently working on the coaching staff with the Welsh FA, explained: "After the foggy match it was a great turn-out and the singing just seemed to go on right through the match, almost from the first whistle.

"I remember their assistant manager Roy McFarland commenting on the fans after the game, he had seen nothing like it. He said 'what about those supporters of yours'.

"I remember another good night against Tottenham but I had never, ever witnessed anything like that."

The refrain that was repeated mantra like was "Jimmy Mullen's Claret and Blue Army" and the fans did not stop singing until the players had come back on the pitch to acknowledge them.

The Clarets have an allocation of 3000 tickets for the game against Fulham a week tomorrow and the traditionally loud away following is sure to be in good voice.

Original plans to just sing throughout the second half have been shelved in favour of the more ambitious target of maintaining the vocal backing from first whistle to last.

If they can do that off the pitch, who knows what feats it will inspire from those Clarets on it?
