THE mother of a 14-month-old "home alone" baby rescued from a house fire was due to be interviewed today by officers from Lancashire Constabulary's family protection team.
The child, who has now been released from Burnley General Hospital, had been left in a cot in a first floor bedroom of the house in Burnley. Firefighters said the baby, who police said lives with its mother, was alone in the house when they were called to tackle a blaze. They rescued the child from the cot and revived her.
She was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Detectives are still investigating the cause of the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious. It is believed the fire started near the bottom of the staircase.
Detective Sergeant Steven Mounsey, of Burnley Police, said: "We would like to speak to any witnesses who may not yet have come forward." Anybody with information should contact Burnley CID on 01282 472280.
