RESIDENTS in Burnley Wood have taken the first step to improving their environment by planting seven semi-mature trees on the new clearance site in Crowther Street.
They were supported by the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Gordon Birtwistle, during phase one of an ambitious three-part programe that will transform areas of Burnley Wood into pleasant green social spaces. The programme has been developed through the efforts of local residents, staff at the Burnley Wood One Stop Shop, the Forest of Burnley, Groundwork and Burnley Borough Council working in partnership.
The tree planting was followed by a special buffet lunch in the Burnley Wood One Stop Shop when phase two of the Putting the Wood back Into Burnley Wood programme was launched.
