BLACKBURN with Darwen Council has announced a month-long review of services in a bid to find out what residents want.

People in the borough will be asked to give their view of its Community Development service in the consultation, which is designed to help the authority improve services and make communities better places to live.

The review will focus on how the council can improve the way it delivers service to the local community and how it can better work alongside the police and health providers.

The council has recently appointed neighbourhood co-ordinators who will work with their communities to solve problems and act as people's first point of contact.

Questionnaires being handed out at community centres, libraries, leisure centres and GP surgeries will ask people what their communities are like to live in and how the council can attempt to make things better.

A cross-party steering group has been set up to review how the council provides it services.

Coun Mohammed Khan, executive member for housing and neighbourhood services, said: "The Government has set neighbourhood renewal as a key priority so it is vital we examine the way we deliver our services to best equip ourselves to meet the challenge.

"We need to look at ways in which we co-ordinate the services that people need and want in a manner they can easily access and understand.

"Community development also offers an ideal medium through which we can improve education, health, crime and neighbourhoods.

"This is a chance for the public to have their say on how we can do things betters for the community."

The consultation begins on February 10 and will last four weeks.
