A BANNED driver who got behind the wheel did not know he had been ordered off the road, Burnley Magistrates heard.
The court was told how Alan David Shapcott, 31, had never received any information to tell him he had been disqualified and had gone to pick up his girlfriend's son.
Shapcott, who has never held a full driving licence, was fined £50 and banned for 12 months.
The defendant, of Hilary Street, Burnley, admitted driving while disqualified, not having insurance and no test certificate.
The court was told the defendant was stopped by police because he was not wearing a seat belt.
When officers checked on the police national computer, they found he was disqualified until May 2003 under the totting up procedure.
Dylan Bradshaw, defending, said Shapcott went a relatively short distance to pick up his girlfriend's son because the weather was bad.
