TEACHERS at a Pendle primary school are hoping for better work from their pupils after hearing that water helps concentration.
Sue Holloway, headteacher of Coates Lane Primary School, in Kirkstall Drive, Barnoldswick, is encouraging parents to send their children to school with a bottle of water every day.
She said: "There is lots of research regarding children having frequent water drinks in school.
"Research has shown that having these frequent water breaks adds to the children's concentration and therefore makes them perform better.
"We at Coates Lane School are having a 'trial' period.
"We are asking parents to send their children with a water bottle each day.
"These will be available to the children as and when they need a drink.
"We are going to monitor very carefully the advantages and disadvantages of this.
"If we see a significant difference in some children we may well install a system that would give us running cool water that can be used to give all children a bottle of cooled water."
