BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent has made an audacious swoop for Ewood striker Matt Jansen.
We can exclusively reveal that the Clarets chief is one of a number of managers who have contacted Blackburn about taking the 25-year-old on loan.
Rovers boss Graeme Souness was due to sit down with the player this morning to discuss the various options on the table before deciding on what to do next.
Rovers are keen to get the player out on a loan in a bid to get him some much-needed match action, as we reported at the weekend.
And a move to the First Division may well appeal to the player as he continues his rehabilitation from a serious head injury.
"Burnley have enquired about him along with several other clubs from the First Division and I'm due to have a meeting with Matt this morning to discuss the situation," said Souness.
Jansen has been limited to just a handful of first team appearances this season as a result of the injuries he sustained in a motorbike accident last summer.
And the feeling within the club is he may well benefit from a spell on loan elsewhere rather than having to step up his comeback in the reserves.
Under current rules, players cannot be loaned out to fellow Premiership clubs so a move into the First Division would appear to represent the best available option.
There's sure to be no shortage of interest in the striker who scored 24 goals when he last played in the First Division to lead Rovers to promotion.
But his wage demands may well put him out of the reach of a club like Burnley, even if Rovers agreed to soften the blow by paying a large chunk.
Ternent has pulled off a couple of transfer coups in the past, adding England legends Paul Gascoigne and Ian Wright to his squad, but signing a major star from his closest rivals would top both deals.
Clarets chairman Barry Kilby has admitted that the club wants to bring in a couple of new faces as the season enters its final stages but he refused to confirm any names.
"We are looking at a number of players and, as no one would be available for the Cup game at Fulham, we are hoping to take advantage of a break from league football," he said.
"If you look at the table you have to believe we have still got a chance of making the play-offs and that will be our target."
In the closing months of last season, Burnley brought in Marlon Beresford from Middlesbrough and David Johnson from Nottingham Forest, both on loan, and most famously signed Gazza from Everton.
With Birmingham midfielder Bryan Hughes one other name in the frame, it is hoped that there will be at least one new face at Turf Moor for the match against Derby County a week on Saturday.
But whether it will be Jansen, remains to be seen.
Rovers will do everything they can financially in order to get him fixed up because the main priority is to get him games.
But the final decision is likely to rest with the player who must decide what's in the best interests of his career.
Meanwhile, Rovers midfielder David Dunn is due to step up his comeback from injury with a run-out in the reserves' game at Middlesbrough tonight.
Dunn has been included in Alan Murray's squad and he is likely to start the game at the Riverside (kick-off 7pm).
