A DEDICATED fundraiser was given the full film star treatment for a night as she picked up a once in a lifetime award.

Carole Davis, events co-ordinator at Asda, Blackburn, was nominated by customers and colleagues for the Lifetime Achievement award at an Oscar-style ceremony in Harrogate.

She was whisked to the function in a stretch limo and fake paparazzi greeted her arrival along with lookalike film stars.

The night left Carole, who raised more than £35,000 for East Lancashire charities last year, completely overwhelmed.

Colleagues say she regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty in her work. She was one of 42 Asda workers out of 110,000 in the UK to receive a lifetime achievement award in the final year awards will be given out.

Carole said: "It was just so fantastic from start to finish. We were in full evening dress. We left the hotel and there were 14 stretch limos waiting for us in the car park.

"We drove round Harrogate a few times then when we arrived there were pretend paparazzi with flashbulbs going off and lookalikes Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Shirley Bassey greeting us.

"Nobody expected to be treated like that. We were treated like real film stars, it was so amazing."

Carole went on stage and received her award in front of 1,700 Asda workers.

It said she helped in the community, was always lending a hand and would go out of her way to help people.

Carole's family, husband Jim, 40, Aaron, 16 and Nathan, 11, have been helping her come back to reality.

Carol, who lives on Lynthorpe Road, Blackburn, said: "I have come back down to earth. My children have been asking me what it was like all the time. They are really proud."
