RESIDENTS in Hyndburn are to receive a letter urging them to check their names are on the electoral register.

Hyndburn Borough Council will deliver letters to every household in the borough to ensure those eligible to vote are registered before the May elections.

To ensure everyone has a vote. residents must notify the council of any additional voters in their household.

This year the council has gained Government approval to carry out a pilot all-postal voting election which means there will be no polling stations.

Everyone whose name is on the electoral register will automatically be sent a ballot paper during April.

The ballot paper can be sent back to the council in a pre-paid envelope or can be left at a number of drop-off points in libraries and other council buildings.
