A BURNLEY soldier hit the ski slopes to compete in the Army Snowboarding Championships in Austria.
Neil Vance, a vehicle mechanic with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, took part in the Stubai Glacier championships for the first time this year.
And after snowboarding for just a week, the former Ivy Bank High School pupil hopes he can go on to compete at senior levels next year.
Neil, 19, said: "I was given the chance to take part and it looked an exciting sport. The army encourage sport and adventure which is good for us with events like this.
"I'd like to do well at the novice level and carry on with the sport and compete at senior levels.
