Clarets striker Gareth Taylor is hoping to win his 11th cap for Wales tonight at the Millennium Stadium.

Mark Hughes's side is going for a record breaking ninth game without defeat and Taylor is set to start on the bench with Celtic striker John Hartson filling the role of lone striker.

The formation that has brought Wales memorable successes against Italy and Germany in the past year sees a target man leading the line with the likes of Simon Davies, Ryan Giggs and Robert Earnshaw lending support.

Taylor has been given lavish praise from rival bosses this season for his ability in the air and he has been covering Hartson along with Wolves striker Nathan Blake. With big Euro 2004 qualifying games just around the corner, Hughes may want to take the opportunity to give him a run out.

That could bring him head to head with Coventry's Mo Konjic, just five days after the pair did battle at Highfield Road.

"It is great to be involved with the Wales squad at a time when things are going so well," he said. Now he is just hoping that he can get his first goal for his country.

Meanwhile this afternoon his Burnley team mate Dimitri Papadopoulos was in action for the Greece Under-21 side as they took on Norway in Crete.

Papadopoulos was one of two players in line to be the captain and having made his full international debut last November he was keen to impress at the more junior level.

Meanwhile, Burnley's youth team will be in action tonight - but playing as the Clarets reserves!

With the senior professionals all away in Portugal ahead of the FA Cup clash with Fulham, it will be a very young side that takes on Tranmere Rovers at Turf Moor this evening.

The three youngest pros at the club - Andrew Leeson, Andrew Waine and Earl Davis - will all feature but the rest of the side has been picked from Terry Pashley's youth team squad.

In form striker Damien Hindle will be hoping to carry on his good form from the weekend when he came off the bench to score twice for the Clarets youth side in a 2-1 win at Carlisle.

"He actually found the net three times but was denied a hat-trick when one of them was unfairly disallowed," said coach Terry Pashley.

"We have no option but to put out a very young team tonight and we will put a few schoolkids on the bench just to give them a bit of experience and let them see what it is like at reserve team level."

With the first team away, the youngsters have had Gawthorpe on themselves and, despite the bad weather, the conditions have not been as bad as had been feared. That has given the players the chance to have decent preparation ahead of tonight's cash with Tranmere.

The game will kick off at 7pm and all supporters are welcome at Turf Moor.

Burnley's team is: Salisbury, Leeson, Davis, Eves, Townsend, Rasmussen, Pilkington, Waine, O'Neill, Chaplow, Hindle. Subs from: Richardson, Hale, Grimes, Pugh, Avery.
