A COUNCILLOR has urged young Muslims celebrating the religious festival Eid to do so peacefully.
Coun Hussain Ahktar, who represents the Shear Brow ward in Blackburn, has warned young Muslims to think about road safety during the festivities.
Coun Ahktar said: "During the celebration some of the youngsters from our community hire cars and they like to go out and drive around the streets.
"You cannot always keep an eye on them and sometimes they do silly things. They beep their horns and cause obstructions when they park on the edge of pavements. There is also some speeding.
"We want them to enjoy the festival, because we want people to celebrate, but we want them to behave themselves while they do and not disturb the peace. I hope they show respect for other parts of the community.
"I want the Asian community to use the occasion to show that they are willing to work shoulder to shoulder with other parts of the community for the good of Blackburn and other towns."
The three-day festival of Eid Al-Adha began yesterday and ends tomorrow.
Coun Ahktar said he would be out and about visiting families and urging the youngsters not to misbehave.
