LONG-STANDING councillor and chairman of the Colne and District Committee, Coun Jo Belbin, died last night in hospital.
Liberal Democrats leader Coun Alan Davies, today expressed his sadness at the death of a good friend and described her as 'the mother of our group'.
He said: "She was the first to help others and a very nice person.
"She was good person. Jo was extremely effective in Colne and was head and shoulders the champion of all the parties.
"She also campaigned a lot for green issues and has requested a green burial, which until now Pendle has never done. She was taken into hospital on Sunday night after a tumour on burst"
Coun Belbin, who lived in Keighley Road, died in hospital at 6pm after failing to recover from an operation on Monday.
