MRS Joyce Holmes read the Riot Act at Tyldesley Probus Club.
She recounted the days of Oswaldtwistle Mills when in 1826 the act was read after workers smashed looms in protest at the use of the Hargreaves' newly-invented Spinning Jenny. Today Moscow Mill is a shopping village with a textile museum and wildlife reserve.
