A VILLAGE pallet company can install a covered storage bay on condition that residents are allowed to have their say.
Wigan Council's development control committee has approved Unit Pallets Ltd plan for a 50m x 30m open sided bay in Bank Street, Golborne, but recommends a forum be set-up where locals can voice concerns with factory bosses.
A 51-name petition was signed by residents of Whitlow Avenue, Golborne, objecting to any increase in working hours and disturbance.
Lightshaw Cllr Peter Franzen also objected on the grounds of noise and disturbance, air pollution, road danger and congestion.
He said: "HGVs which create havoc on the towns roads, mount and damage the pavements, present a danger to pedestrians, result in vibration damage to local conservation area buildings and have twice shed their loads in the centre in recent years."
"Any further development of the site could lead to an increase in the adverse conditions and should therefore not be permitted."
He suggested that all operations should be restricted to reasonable hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and excluding bank holidays.
