Dominant North End show their class

HEADS WE WIN: Lee Cartwright leaps to score North End's second

WIZARD winger Eddie Lewis put away his second goal in two games as a magical performance by Preston brought them within eight points of the play-offs - but no higher up the table.

To say Preston dominated is an understatement of huge proportions.

The match was summed up by Millwall's 88th minute goal - it was their first shot of the game.

Preston should have had the match wrapped up by half-time. Instead, they only went in at the break two goals to the good. On 15 minutes, Richard Cresswell and George Koumantarakis combined on the wing to set up Lewis, who rifled home a 15-yard shot from the left hand side of the box.

It was a goal of sheer class, and one Craig Brown reckons Lewis has been scoring in training all season.

Ten minutes later, Lee Cartwright doubled North End's lead when he banished the ball past Millwall keeper Tony Warner, possibly the most hated man at Deepdale on Saturday following his run-in with a ball boy last season.

Lewis and Cresswell created chances for themselves before the break, running weary Millwall ragged, though to be fair they had gone two hours against Southampton three days before.

Koumantarakis and latterly his sub Simon Lynch both had chances in the second half before Millwall pulled a goal back on 88 minutes.

Substitute Christophe Kinet hit a goal so quick that Jonathan Gould, not tested all game in the PNE goal, didn't even have time to react to it.
