AFTER three weeks of inactivity Leigh Athletic returned to action against high flying Wilmslow and came away with a 3-1 win to keep their season alive.
Leigh dominated from the start and only a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing led to a scoreless first half hour. But on 30 minutes a fine Gordon Walker free kick was headed home by Danny Wilson to put Leigh in the driving seat.
Wilmslow had a player sent off but equalised on the stroke of half time following poor Leigh defending.
The second half saw more of the same as Leigh played some neat football but failed to make it count. But a 50 yard run and cross from Steve Bevan was finished by Craig Faulkner for his first senior goal. The points were wrapped up when Walker fired home from the spot.
This was a good performance from Leigh with Stead, Spowart and Gibbons all putting in fine performances.
