MRS J Madden (Letters, February 4) and others seem to be under the impression that the all-weather pitch at the rear of the Leisure Centre, in Darwen, will be destroyed when the new £11 million state-of-the-art health centre is built.
While the current pitch will go, part of the 'deal' to build the new centre involves creating a brand-new pitch in a suitable location in the town, before the old pitch is removed. This has always been part of the plans, so I'm not sure how people got the impression that the all -weather pitch would simply disappear.
Council officers are currently investigating suitable sites in Darwen. So rather than writing to the Press, a simple phone call or letter to their local councillor will answer residents' queries about the plans for the pitch, as well as any questions about the health centre.
COUN Dave Smith ( Sunnyhurst Ward ), Woodbank Avenue, Darwen.
