A FLY tipper who dumped his rubbish because he could not be bothered to make another trip to his local civic amenity site, has appeared before Bury magistrates.
Christopher Eric Walton, from Holme Avenue in Bury, pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, in regard to depositing controlled waste.
The court was told that Walton had initially travelled to the Fernhill Civic Amenity tip in Bury, but when he arrived he discovered it was closed. So, on his way back home, he stopped at Hazel Hall Lane, just off Longsight Road, Holcombe Brook, and dumped his rubbish.
However, paper belonging to him and containing information enabling the council to track him down, was found by a passer-by and resulted in the prosecution being brought. Walton, who admitted there was no excuse for what he had done, told the magistrates it would not happen again.
He was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £350 court costs.
After the hearing, Bury Metro's Public Protection spokesperson, Cllr Pam Walker, said: "Fly tipping and littering is not only unsightly and costly to remove, but the rubbish can pose a health risk to people and animals."
