MANY of our councillors seem to me to spend far too much time talking nonsense and writing letters to the Citizen and not enough getting to know the real world of Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham.

If they did they would find that most people are sick of them doing nothing for us.

I used to love living in Morecambe and I made the mistake of choosing to stay here, thinking I was giving my children a good start in a nice town. How wrong could I have been?

My children are now at the age (11 and 13) where they want to go out and see friends after school.

But there is nowhere for them to go without it costing a fair bit of cash, so they spend evenings at home because I don't see the point in them roaming the streets and I refuse to allow them out.

After all, there is the chance they will get into trouble for making a noise, or worse still something bad may happen to them. For example, a £250 three-week-old bike bought for my son was stolen within 10 minutes of him leaving the house.

I mean, what's it coming to when people are stealing from helpless kids? And let's face it, at the moment the chances of this happening are quite high.

Why can the council not wake up and smell the roses? These kids are the future of this community and all the council is managing to do is drive the family unit and the younger generation of voters out of the area. But for the fact that I do not want to disturb their education, I would have gone long ago.

I hope people don't feel discriminated against by my next comment, but I get the impression that Morecambe itself is becoming one giant retirement home. You just have to look in most of the shops for a start. For me to buy decent clothes for my children I always have to travel away from the town.

And I am so glad I do not drive. If you have a car you will be stuck in traffic half of the time and paying a speeding fine from one of the many cameras on roads in the area the other half.

Depressed,

Morecambe.
