BURNLEY fielded an inexperienced youth team at Carlisle United at the weekend but still managed to win 2-1.
"We had seven under-16s in the side and they did very well," said coach Terry Pashley. "I knew the trainees would be needed in the reserves this week so it was a good chance to look at the young players again."
The youngsters included the two trialists from the North East, Mark Davison and Ross Preston, who had done well in the previous game.
"We have had a couple of good looks at them and we will hope to get them down again this weekend," added Pashley.
"Now is the time of year when decisions have to be made and everyone is anxious to know what will happen."
It was the introduction of a couple of older lads that swung the match Burnley's way.
Richard Chaplow and Damien Hindle came off the bench and Hindle struck twice to earn the three points.
Pashley said: "Even if we had lost the game it would still have been a good performance as the young kids were smashing."
Meanwhile four members of the Under-14 squad at the club's centre of excellence, Jack Overson, Jay Rodrigues, Stephen Hall and Chris Smalley, have been invited on a national development course at Lilleshall.
