WHITE sands, hot sun, long nights, cool drinks -- Ibiza couldn't seem further away at the moment.
But that's not to say we can't be preparing for it. And Prestatyn is as good a place to do it as any... especially when half of Lancashire is expected at Pontin's Holiday Camp early next month for Rock FM's first weekender event.
Since the demise of the superclub last year, one-off events have been all the rage -- and this one could provide the perfect antedote to the winter blues.
For three days and two nights, that summer holiday mentality will reign supreme, with the emphasis firmly on having a good time.
One of the big highlights of the weekend will be the Ibiza Beach Party, which takes up the best part of Saturday night. Did we mention a 5am finish and 24hr bars? No? Didn't think so.
Along with Flip 'n' Fill -- one half of which is Darwen's Graham Turner -- will be Mark Freejack, our columnist and DJ extraordinaire, and Chris Thomas, one quarter of K-Klass.
K-Klass have gone from been the band who made classic dance hits in the 1990s to a highly successful DJ collective.
Carl said: "I haven't done a weekender for years, not since Southport a long time ago. But I'm hoping it will be a bit special.
"We go very much on the house tip, not trance or anything like that, and it's very popular.
"But when I go to Pontin's I will be playing the old skool stuff. That has become really popular again and I am looking forward to it."
K-Klass hits include Rhythm Is A Mystery and Let Me Show You -- which went top five and top twenty in the UK charts. This success bagged them many lucrative remixes (more than 100 and counting) and raised their DJ profile further.
Carl said: "I will play some of the old K Klass stuff. It is quite strange in one respect, because when I play some of the old stuff from the 1990s, which were massive back then, I see people singing and dancing to it who probably don't even remember it first time round.
"It's odd to play old skool stuff and realise it is your own music, but a whole new generation are loving the sound."
K-Klass are made up of Carl, Andy Williams, Paul Roberts and Russ Morgan.
Carl added: "I suppose most people go the other way, from Djing to making records, but it seemed the obvious step for us. We have hundreds of records each and just love playing them."
Freejack, who has played alongside the other members of K-Klass on more than one occasion, added: "It's going to be a great weekend, and a great warm-up for Ayia Napa or Ibiza. They're only round the corner now."
Ever the optimist!
