RESIDENTS in Nelson's Southfield Ward will be digging out their bin bags and litter pickers next weekend to tidy up their neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood pride officer Nasreen Khanam, will be joined by ward councillors to encourage residents in the ward to come out and help clean up litter and other debris next Saturday morning, between 11am and 2pm, starting at Williams Hall, in Barkerhouse Road.
Free skips will be sited in the ward on the day of the clean-up for unwanted bulky items.
Nasreen said: "We are really trying to encourage residents in certain areas to take responsibility for keeping their neighbourhoods clean and tidy.
"People need to remember to put out their bin bags only on their collection day and not before and if they want to throw out other household items, they should contact the council, which provides various free collection services."
To check collection day or to get more information on the collection of household waste, contact the council's operational services on 01282 661743.
Clean-ups have also been planned in the Walverden Ward on Saturday, March 1, and in Marsden Ward on March 8.
