GARY McAllister will look to Matt Jansen as the man to rescue Coventry's promotion dreams after the Sky Blues suffered a play-off set-back at Rotherham on Saturday.
McAllister was fuming after watching City pass up the chance of closing the gap on the top six by crashing 1-0 at Millmoor.
That means this weekend's clash with Bradford at Highfield Road has now taken on even greater significance.
But, with Jansen set to make his debut after finalising his three-month loan spell with the First Division club, McAllister hopes the Rovers striker's arrival can trigger a change in fortunes for the Midlanders.
"He's an exciting player and as with all the people we bring in short term, there has got to be a certain amount of luck involved," said McAllister.
"We need him to come here and hit it off straight away because we don't have a great deal of time to bed him in.
"So we are hoping for an instant reaction from him and looking for him to come in and get a bit of confidence and hopefully get a couple of goals early in his time here.
"His arrival might enable us to play with two up front because he is a player who can come and link the play but also can threaten from behind, so he has got an all round striking ability and he is a player who can give us that extra bit of quality up the park."
The paperwork on Jansen's loan move was actually completed on Friday which means he would be available for the first leg of the play-offs should Coventry get there -- but probably not the second.
Nevertheless, Rovers boss Graeme Souness believes the move could be just what the player needs as he steps up his comeback from a serious head injury.
"He's a fantastic boy, a proper human being. If you're a father and you have a daughter, he's son-in-law material," said Souness, speaking as a guest on Century FM's Legends phone-in.
"I'd love to get Matt back to where he was, if people can remember that far, playing out of his skin for us.
"But head injuries cannot be taken lightly. I am hoping he can regain his form at Coventry and come back and have a real go for us at the start of next season.
"I pray for him to be the player he was."
