HEALTH bosses at Burnley General Hospital have submitted plans to build a new nursery, following a staff survey which criticised childcare provision there.
A questionnaire last year, which quizzed staff employed by Burnley Health Care NHS Trust over all aspects of their working life, found that fewer than 10 per cent were satisfied with the childcare facilities provided. Trust bosses are now planning to build a new nursery on the site of the hospital in a bid to address the problem.
The survey, which was sent out to all trust employees last March, found that just 9.2 per cent of those who replied thought childcare provision at work was good enough.
The figure was, however, an improvement on the previous year, when only six per cent said they were happy with the facilities.
Plans for the new nursery have now been submitted to planners at Burnley Borough Council, who will consider the scheme provide 56 places for employee's children aged from three months to five years.
There is already a 32-place nursery at Blackburn Royal Infirmary for the employees of the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Trust.
The Burnley nursery is likely to cost about £360,000 and trust bosses are hoping all the money will be provided by central government.
