I COULDN'T believe it when I read in the Bury Times (Jan 31) that Bury is home to 628 asylum-seekers and the number is set to rise to 914. It is time the council looked after its own.
I have been on the council housing list for 18 years now. I am in a wheelchair and need a two-bedroom bungalow. My home now is very damp and very cold. It is like being outside when I use the bathroom. A lot of work needs doing to this property and and no-one cares. I should not be living like this in this day and age.
The council keep saying they have got no accommodation, but they can find it for asylum-seekers.
