A TRAWDEN teenager handed over £160 of her own savings to raise money for a seven-year-old girl suffering from cancer.
Nicola Cross, 18, of Dean Street, heard about the plight of Robin Brooks, of Rochdale, who is currently receiving treatment in America for her illness and began emailing her family to ask if she could raise money for her.
She got together with her friend Vicky Gartshore, 18, of Rochdale, and they came up with the idea of making a record.
Nicola, a former Park High school pupil, said: "When I went to the homecoming concert for Gareth Gates in Bradford, I met one of his friends Ricky Whaites who was performing there and I thought he was really good so I asked him if he would make a single to raise money for Robin.
"I paid for the recording studio and he wrote and sang the song which is called 'One In A Million'.
"We have sent it off to a few record companies and if we don't get anywhere we are going to release it ourselves.
"The chorus says 'You are what makes the world go round, you are one in a million and we will make the world go round for you'.
"It's a song I would go out and buy."
