A 16-YEAR-OLD twin has died after he was found hanging by a tie.
Michael Browning, of Beaconsfield Street, Haslingden, was discovered at home but pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Further toxicology tests are being carried out and a post mortem examination has taken place.
Michael was a former pupil at Haslingden High School where pupils and staff have been stunned by the death.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and findings had been reported to the coroner.
An inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday.
Michael has a twin sister, Katie, and a younger sister, Lucy, who is in Year 10 at Haslingden High.
A friend today described Michael as "a cheeky chap who had a heart of gold."
Joseph Turner, 15, of Wells Street, said he was a "brilliant person" who had everything to live for.
He said: "Michael was always smiling and always happy. We used to play football together in a group on the streets at night.
"He loved everything about life and had a bright outlook on everything.
"He was very bubbly and always laughing and joking.
"It's a sad time for all his friends and he will be missed by a lot of people." Joseph's parents, Michael and Kathleen, also paid tribute to Michael.
Mrs Turner said: "We have just found out that Michael had recently started an apprenticeship as a mechanic which we know he would have done well at.
"It's such a shame he is not going to have the chance to flourish in the role and grow up to be a grand person.
"Our thoughts and feelings are with his parents at this sad time."
Anthony Nicholson, deputy head at Haslingden High, said: "Michael left the school last year. We know about the event but have very little information beyond that.
"We may do something in memory of Michael but it is too early to say."
Michael's family were too upset to comment.
