A RARE programme from Bury FC's 1903 FA Cup final win has fetched more than £5,000 at auction.
Experts at Sotheby's had priced the item at £2,000, but were delighted when a bidding war drove the price to £5,520.
The eventual buyer, however, was from the Derby area rather than the North-west.
It is believed to be one of the most valuable Bury programmes ever.
Sotheby's spokesman Graham Budd said: "We are delighted that the programme has done so well.
"I had to be conservative in my estimate because it was so rare.
"There were no precedents to go by, as this was the first of its kind to go on sale."
He added: "Also because it had been clipped slightly, it was not in its original condition, so I had to be wary of that.
"It was an historic game because it produced the record score in a cup final."
A Bolton Wanderers programme from their 1929 FA Cup Final victory over Portsmouth also made more than predicted at the auction.
The programme was valued at £500 before the sale, but an unnamed bidder paid £1,020 for it.
The victory completed a hat-trick of 1920s FA Cup wins for the Wanderers.
Mr Budd said: "It went for more than we expected, which is always good.
"But this one was not as rare a piece, and so it would not be as valuable as the Bury programme."
He added: "I would challenge the town of Bury to find an older or better condition programme than this one."
