ALL-ROUND sports star James Hill has been selected for the England U19 lacrosse squad.
The 16-years-old Wigan and Leigh College student will join a tour to Canada -- home of the game -- in June.
James, of Rydal Close, Tyldesley, took up the sport four years ago when he joined his lifetime pal, Vincent Matlak, playing at Monton Sports Club.
He started off in attack for half a season then turned to goalkeeping, a position he has held for his team at Boardman and Eccles Sports Club since.
Three members of the club attended trials but only James won his place in goal for in the national side.
Now he is hoping to raise £1,000 sponsorship to help towards his trip.
The squad faces a tough group battle against teams from Canada, the US champions and Australia.
James, who is studying for a national diploma in sport, hopes to become a PE teacher.
A former pupil at Tyldesley CP School and Fred Longworth High School, he said: "I can't wait, I'm really looking forward to it."
He is also plays cricket for A and T and hockey and badminton at college. He is keen on fitness training and is now busy preparing with the England squad for the matches which run from June 26 to July 5.
