WORKERS at an East Lancashire company were set to decide today whether to go back to work after a day of industrial action.
The 60 gas pipe layers and resurfacers from Alfred McAlpine's engineering depot in Heys Lane, Great Harwood, downed tools yesterday, saying they had not had a pay rise for two years and demanded an increase in their hourly rate.
The company held emergency talks with the workers last night to try and avert more action.
David Pountley, spokesman for the men, said an agreement had been reached based on a profit share, with the workers asked to take greater care of equipment to prevent thefts that cut into profit margins.
He would be putting it to the workers to decide this morning, he said.
A spokesman for the company said: "Alfred McAlpine views its employees as its most valuable asset and has many internal procedures in place to provide staff with the opportunity to discuss any issues affecting them."
