RAMSBOTTOM United manager Andy Grimshaw wants a repeat of last Saturday's victory at Winsford when it's the Cheshire side's turn to visit the Riverside on Saturday (3pm).

The Rams boss was delighted with the triumph that lifted his side out of the relegation places for the first time in months.

The 3-1 win, courtesy of goals from Gareth Gardiner, Doni Clarke and Glyn Barker, extended an unbeaten run to three games but what is specially pleasing for Grimshaw is the manner in which they are accruing points - without kicking their way out of trouble.

In fact, the Rams have been receiving rave reviews from opposing managers in recent weeks with most saying their league position belies the quality of football they are playing.

"That's what's pleasing for me and assistant manager Jimmy Clarke," explained Grimshaw. "We won at Winsford playing the right way.

"We didn't just beat them on the physical side we played some good football on a boggy surface.

"We are a footballing side with ability from front to back but in this league and on the heavy pitches you get this time of year that can work against you."

Sensibly, the Rams boss is refusing to go overboard about their recent run and is keen to keep his squad focused for the rest of what will be a tense run-in.

But there's no doubt that the personnel changes he and assistant manager Jimmy Clarke have made are finally bearing fruit and the introduction of Clarke's son Doni - a youngster released by Huddersfield Town - has been important.

"We've changed a lot of the squad and, obviously, Doni has made a big difference to us but it isn't all about him.

"Other players have responded to his workrate and it is bringing out the best in them.

"But there's no point getting carried away with three unbeaten games.

"That said, we are heading in the right direction and looking forward to every match.

"It was disappointing that our midweek game against Glossop North End was postponed because all the lads are desperate to play.

"It's a great dressing room to be involved in at present, confidence is high and we want to keep that going."

THE Rams postponed home match against Glossop North End has been re-arranged for next Tuesday evening (February 24). Kick-off at the Riverside is 7.45pm.
