THE four Ramsbottom teams in Division One met this week with the A team playing the D team and the B and C teams meeting.
The two lower teams only managed one set between them and came in the doubles for the C team with all six higher ranked players winning trebles.
Three of these players, Michael Moir, Graham Hoy and Dave Newton all feature highly in the Top Ten Table along with Jim Chadwick and Mick Dore of Cricketers who team also had a maximum victory over St Philips A.
Graham Jeffries scored three wins for Location but his team could only manage a draw at Carlton Club A.
Glenn Payne scored three for Little Lever as his team beat Mosses A 7-3 and Prestwich A beat YMCA A by 9-1 with both George Jones and Eddie Simon being undefeated.
The match between Maccabi A and Ramsbottom E ended all square, the important set being the one between Derek Buckley and Jeff Ingber which the Ramsbottom man won 21-14 in the third game.
It was important because it took Buckley to the top of the individual table, just one point ahead of Ingber and also Vinny Croft of Mosses. Croft, and his team mate Dave Smith both won three in Mosses B's 9-1 victory over Prestwich D which keeps them well ahead at the top of the league. Peter Mears was a treble winner in Seedfield As 8-2 win over Adelphi as did Mark Reading as Carlton Club B beat Prestwich C 6-4.
The other match in Division Two between St Philips B and Prestwich B ended in a draw with Dave Holden of St Philips being the unbeaten player.
Only Five points cover the four teams all chasing Claybank at the top of the league so the game between Elton Vale A and BGSOB A was an important one and even though David Hall won his customary treble for Elton Vale his team went down 6-4 and allowed BGSOB A to move into second position.
ELPM A moved into third place after their 6-4 victory over Carlton Club D even though John Bostock won all three sets for Carlton.
The two Holmar teams are still at the bottom of Division Four, although the B team have started to pick up points recently.
To add to last week's victory, they collected another five this week with a draw at home to Maccabi C, mostly thanks to Alan Hibbert who won his second treble in two weeks.
The A team did not fare quite so well going down 8-2 at Seedfield C with Peter Ingham and Ian Charlton both undefeated for Seedfield.
BGSOB B retained their second position in the league after their draw at home to Elton Vale B with ELPM B in third place after their 6-4 victory over Maccabi D.
Things are so tight at the top of Division Five that the two points Seedfield E took off the leaders Prestwich F might yet still be enough to take their D team to the top of the league when they have completed their match in hand.
The Seedfield F team could not get on the score card at all when they went down by the maximum score to Holmar C and Maccabi E did well to win 7-3 when they travelled to Elton Vale C.
