POLICE today said they believed drink did not play a part in the death of teenager Anthony Riley.
Anthony, 14, was found at his home in Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, on Saturday after complaining of feeling unwell.
Police initially questioned his friends after being told they had drunk vodka the night before his death.
But police now believe this did not cause his death and they were looking at other medical reasons.
Detective Inspector Mark Gray, of Pennine Police, said: "During the initial stages of the investigation we were looking at reports that Anthony had been drinking vodka with friends the night before he died.
"However, the post mortem examination has now made it clear that at this stage there is no causal link between that and his death, which we now believe was caused by medical reasons."
Tributes were paid to Anthony during an assembly yesterday at St Theodore's High School, Burnley, where he was a pupil.
He was a keen Burnley and Liverpool supporter and played football and ran for the school team.
A memorial trophy for cross-country is now being planned by the school and will be presented at the sports presentation evening in June.
