I am saddened by the District Auditor's report on the Crinkley Bottom episode, not only because of the personal comments about Cllr Heath - who wasn't the one under scrutiny - but because of the possible con-sequences of them.
The knives are already out for Cllr Heath, who now faces a vote of no confidence.
Whatever the outcome, Cllr heath can take pride from the fact that, having assumed the leadership of an authority left practically bankrupt by the previous administration, she has seen it turned right round.
Should the vote of confidence go against Cllr Heath, the Labour group should not become too self-congratulatory. It could well be that they face a vote of no confidence in coming elections.
Labour ruined Morecambe during the years prior to the formation of the Morecambe Bay Independents, while the Tories sat back and watched them do their worst. That is precisely why the Independents were formed.
I have attended enough council meetings both as a councillor (1991-95) and since as a regular observer to know that politics is a dirty game. But the game being played now is very dirty indeed.
Surely the way forward is not to seek to make a scapegoat out of someone who has merely been trying to find out why Blobby cost the ratepayers so much money.
The Friends of the Victoria Pavilion have nothing but thanks for Cllr Heath. She is the only person to have succeeded in trying to find a solution to the Winter Gardens saga, bringing the 'friends' and the owners round the table to discuss a way forward.
The 'no confidence;' tactic by Labour is merely a pathetic smokescreen to mask their own considerable failings over the years.

Morecambe
