A LEIGH church is opening its doors for a quiet vigil for peace with Iraq on Ash Wednesday.

An open invitation is offered to anyone wishing to reflect on the crisis at Leigh Parish Church on March 5 from noon to 2pm and from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Canon Alan R Gawith said: 'War with Iraq is a very real possibility.

"No-one wants war, but they do want the end of any weapons of mass destruction and of the means to manufacture such weapons that Iraq possesses.

"The church will be open for a 'Quiet Vigil for Peace, Justice and Understanding'. Peace is more than a lack of conflict, justice more than punishment and well-being more than only our well-

being."
