A MAN who punched a groundsman and damaged his cheekbone in a road rage melee, could be facing jail.

Kamar Mohmood, 20, had claimed he was at hospital visiting his wife and new baby when the attack occurred on Southfield Street, Nelson.

But he was picked out on an identity parade by the victim's passenger after he was arrested.

The defendant, of Every Street, Nelson, was convicted of grievous bodily harm by a Burnley Crown Court jury, after a three-day trial. He had denied the allegation.

He was bailed until March 20 for a pre-sentence report, by Recorder Robert Warnock.

The court had been told how victim Garry Harris had been driving a Range Rover with a trailer and was said to have caused minor damage to the defendant's vehicle.

Mohmood accused Mr Harris of causing more serious damage at which point Mr Harris said he would get the police to sort the situation out.

He got back in his vehicle, the defendant kicked it, Mr Harris got out and was punched in the face and knocked to the ground. The defendant then drove off.

One of the victim's passengers noted Mohmood's number plate, police started making enquiries and found the vehicle was owned by the defendant's father.
