AN initiative to get pupils involved in different pursuits has seen Darwen Vale pupils getting to grips with the ancient art of judo.
Around 20 Vale students have been involved in the 12-week sessions to promote confidence building, discipline and improve balance.
Collette Roberts, who organised the classes for the school, said: "It's part of an on-going initiative we have to keep pupils active in the afternoon, teach them new skills and expand their horizons.
"Children are enjoying it so far and the sessions have been well attended. They're learning the basics of judo from grips to simple throws. At the end of the sessions they will be given vouchers to join a judo club."
The children were awarded with certificates and medals for their achievements to date.
The judo beginners are planning a display their skills to get more pupils involved in the scheme.
