BOLTON-BORN funnyman Peter Kay today dispelled rumours he had been booked by fundraisers at a Rossendale Cricket club -- but admitted: "I wouldn't say no!"

The comedian behind Channel 4's hit series Phoenix Nights said he was extremely busy and would not be appearing for the rumoured two nights at Haslingden Cricket Club's Bentgate ground.

But his agent confirmed the star of the chart-topping Live at the Top of the Tower show had been approached to appear at a cricket club and had not ruled out an appearance for charity. She said: "I've heard about a request for him to perform at a cricket club but nothing has been confirmed.

"He is very busy with his tour until April and has other projects lined-up. He'd never say never but at this moment in time he's very busy. I don't think he's ever been to Haslingden but if it was for a good cause and the right time he may consider visiting."

The comic coup would be the second big name to appear at the club this year after fundraisers, hoping to pay £3,500 for a new roller, secured Bernard Manning to appear as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations. Tickets for the event tonight sold out within days.

Today the club said booking Peter Kay would be "a fundraising dream come true". Club batsman and former Whalley professional Graham Knowles, 29, organised the Bernard Manning event alongside first team captain Paul Blackledge and former player Ian Rishton.

Graham said: "It would be a dream to get Peter to the club but I don't think he'd have time. If he finds himself at a loose end one night I'd urge him to give us an hour of his time."
