AN outhouse close to the derelict Edge End Farm, in Edge End Lane, was severely damaged by fire yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 1.45pm and were there almost two hours.
The single-storey garage and workshop was well alight when the Nelson firefighters arrived and they were later joined by firefighters from Burnley. Sub-officer Keith Dixon, of Nelson Fire and Rescue, said: "When we got there the flames were going through the roof and spreading to the property next door which is a big, old listed building. We had to use a jet to dampen down the fire and a hose reel to protect it."
Edge End Farm has been boarded up while a planning application from Rowland Homes to build 26 detached houses and six three-storey town houses on the site was considered by Pendle Council.
In the meantime members of the council approved a proposal to designate the Edge End area as a conservation area which put an end to plans for redevelopment of the listed building.
