ACCRINGTON Stanley are another step closer to the Nationwide Conference after a resounding 4-1 victory over Worksop.

And as Vauxhall Motors, one of the Reds' main rivals for promotion, dropped three points against Bradford Park Avenue, John Coleman's side looked all the more assured of that precious promotion with just 12 UniBond Premier games to go.

The Reds have well and truly conquered their travel sickness since a 1-0 at Burscough at the end of last month, which was their first win away from the Crown Ground since September.

They have since won another two on their travels and their current run of consecutive wins in all competitions stands at seven.

Against Worksop, the Reds had to wait just 16 minutes before Lutel James smashed home his 22nd of the season from a Rory Prendergast cross.

But Worksop were back on level terms just minutes later when a rash foul by Rory Prendergast conceded a spot kick. Andy Todd was the man to beat Jamie Speare from the spot.

Seven minutes before the break it was Stanley's turn to take advantage of a penalty decision after the ref spotted a handball - and it was James again who put them into the lead.

The Reds started the second half brightly and went further ahead five minutes after the restart with Paul Mullin keeping his head to slot home with only the keeper to beat.

Any hopes of a Worksop recovery were effectively ended on 55 minutes as Mullin again hit home with his 25th of the season to end the afternoon's scoring.

Coleman said: "It was a great performance and a really important game for us. The are all important of course but we played really well and the lads responded well to what I wanted of them.

"We had a sticky patch away from home but three away wins in a row now seems to have ended that and I am excited about that.

"Everywhere we go people want to beat us and that is something we have to deal with so we have to be at our best at all times.

"On Saturday it was a strange situation because they had to win to give themselves any chance of winning the league so they maybe committed too many men forward and we were able to pick them off.

"But they are a good side, they were just a victim of their circumstances."

STANLEY: Speare, Cavanagh, Hollis, Smith, Halford, Payne, Marsh, Proctor, Prendergast, Mullin, James.

STANLEY have released midfielder Dave Robinson. The former Liverpool trainee was signed from Runcorn in September 2001 for £4,000, and made 40 appearances for the club. Manager John Coleman said the player was set to sign for UniBond first division neighbours Rossendale United. "He wanted first team football and with such a big squad here he wasn't involved so we agreed to release him," he said.
