NEW jobs could be on the cards at a Burnley wrought-ironsmiths, as part of a massive new investment in the firm which is going from strength to strength.
B Rourke and Co. Ltd, based at the Vulcan Ironworks, in Accrington Road, is spending almost £750,000 to create a two-storey 36,000 sq ft distribution and sales warehouse at the site.
The firm currently employs just over 100 people, although managing director Brian Rourke, who started the business 40 years ago, said the plans for expansion should mean taking on more staff.
The company moved to its premises four years ago from Yorkshire Street with just 40 employees and has built up an international reputation, which has led to orders from across the world, including Europe, the United States and Australia.
The latest request was for a piece of ironwork for a replica Georgian chapel in Japan.
Closer to home, the firm has provided gates and ironwork for many famous names, including the giant Paisley Gates, which stand in front of Liverpool's Anfield ground, scrolls and decorative iron work for the James Bond movie Golden Eye, a chandelier for Bianca Jagger and a staircase for football manager Harry Redknapp.
