ROSSENDALE and Darwen MP Janet Anderson has pledged her support for a private member's bill to introduce new controls on fireworks.
The bill, sponsored by Bill Tynan, MP for Hambleton South in Scotland, is seeking to promote the responsible use of fireworks.
It wants to limit noise levels and ensure those involved in the sale of fireworks and the organisation of public displays are properly licensed.
Mrs Anderson said: "I have received numerous representations from constituents about problems caused by the irresponsible use of fireworks.
"In addition to the well publicised number of injuries caused to people every year older people are being intimidated, young children are having their sleep disrupted and animals of all types are being injured and traumatised.
"The effects of fireworks on guide dogs for the blind can be devastating. It can result in them being unable to continue working and remain distressed at sudden noises for the rest of their lives."
