CARERS of people with mental health problems can share experiences at a special information day next month.
Lancashire County Council's social services department has organised the event as part of its commitment to working with and supporting carers since the introduction of the Carers Recognition Act.
Under the new law, carers of people with mental health difficulties are encouraged to take up their right to an assessment and accept appropriate support, including short courses, holidays, theatre trips and respite care.
But a spokesman for the service said the uptake had been slow and limited.
The information day, which is free of charge, will take place at Alston Hall College, near Longridge, on March 26. It aims to provide carers with information on how to access help for themselves and the people for whom they care and to take time out from the busy schedule of caring.
Professionals involved will be from Lancashire Social Services and the health and voluntary sector, including nursing, pharmacy and family support. There will also be relaxation techniques on offer from college tutors.
If you care for someone with a mental health problem and have a GP in the Preston area, please contact Janet Redding, Brian Rigby or Margaret Tinker at the Preston Community Support Team for more information and an application form, on 01772 562242.
The closing date for applications is March 12.
